MIAMI-Developers have begun work on the $12 million renovation of the Caribbean's North Tower at 3737 Collins Ave.
The historic North Tower, originally built in 1941, will undergo a facade restoration and interior renovation including reviving the look of the lobby. New balconies, rooftop terraces, full-length windows and glass railings will be added to the units. The foundation and shell will remain intact. Christa Construction & Development is the general contractor on the project. When completed in spring 2008, the six-story North Tower will have 36 units.
"We are working to maintain the integrity of the architecture and contextual look of the tower while adding top-line technology and modernized amenities and features," says Christa Development Corp. president John Casey. "When we're done, Caribbean will exemplify the best of old glamour and modern-day lavish living."
Caribbean is being developed by Christa/Bluerock, a partnership between New York-based Christa Development Corp. and Bluerock Real Estate. In addition to the North Tower, the project will include construction from the ground up of the 19-story, 68-unit South Tower, which will include construction of a 35,000-sf, 108-space underground parking garage. Units are priced from $2 million. Kobi Karp is the architect for the project and Christopher Ciccone is the interior designer and creative consultant. Majestic Properties is the exclusive sales agent.
