The Archon Group and Goldman Properties, which last year acquired 17 buildings in the Fort Point Channel area from the Boston Wharf Co. for $93 million, will re-light the historic 'Boston Wharf Real Estate Co. Industrial Real Estate' sign at 263 Summer St. in South Boston. The move marks the former warehouse district's transformation into an upcoming waterfront neighborhood "This is a symbol of the neighborhood," John Matteson, regional director for Archon, tells GlobeSt.com.
The Archon/Goldman partnership plans to turn the 17 brick buildings, totaling about 1.2 million sf, into a mix of retail, commercial and residential space over the next five to seven years at a cost of about $400 million, Matteson says. The new district will also include sidewalk cafes, art galleries and restaurants.
