SOPAC is a project of a partnership that includes Seton Hall University. The New York-based RKT&B Architects designed it and the general contractor was Arnell Construction Co. The facility's official launch is taking place during the first two weeks of November, highlighted by a series of special events and culminating with a fund-raising gala on November 16.
"Creating a distinctive public building on a tight site between a train station and a parking lot was quite a challenge," says Carmi Bee, principal of RKT&B Architects. "But you can't ask for a more convenient location, just steps from the station stop."
The completed SOPAC contains a live performing arts center with a seating capacity of 415. Also part of the package is a five-screen movie theater operated by Clearview Cinemas and an open loft space facing South Mountain Reservation that is available for rental to the public.
