What officials term the cornerstone of the Project Horizon initiative is a new 1,000-room hotel that will feature 300-House of Blues themed rooms. The new hotel will be owned and operated by Mohegan Sun. Other highlights of the new House of Blues additions to the complex include a House of Blues Music Hall, restaurant, retail outlet and poker room.
Project Horizon also calls for 115,000 sf of additional retail and restaurant space and a new 64,000-sf Casino of the Wind. In addition, Mohegan Sun will expand its Asian gaming operations in the existing Casino of the Earth facility at the gaming complex.
The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, the owner and operator of Mohegan Sun, plans to finance the project through a new $1-billion revolving credit facility from a syndicate of financial institutions and commercial banks, tribal officials note. The credit facility is expected to close sometime in December 2006, they add.

Construction is set to begin in the summer of 2007 on the new hotel and casino. Project Horizon is expected to add more than 1.4 million sf to Mohegan Sun's existing facilities. The hotel will open in two phases--the 700 Mohegan Sun rooms are expected to open in the spring of 2010, while the 300 House of Blues rooms are expected to open in the summer of 2010.
The new restaurant and retail component is scheduled to open in the fall of 2009.
The new Casino of the Wind will be located adjacent to the existing Casino of the Sky. Its design will include 42,000 sf of gaming space with more than 900 slot machines, 10 table games and a specially themed House of Blues poker room with 45 tables. The Casino of the Wind development is expected to open in the spring of 2008.
