GREENWICH, CT—GVA Williams of Connecticut reports that international retailer Zara has signed an 18,000-sf net lease at 225 Greenwich Ave. The planned two-level store will be Zara's first location in Connecticut.

Zara, an fashion chain headquartered in Spain, is a subsidiary of Inditex Group, and has 990 stores worldwide. The store is expected to open on the highly sought after Greenwich Avenue retail strip sometime this fall, GVA Williams officials say. The space was formerly leased to Pier 1.

The Stamford, CT office of GVA Williams represented the building owner in the transaction.

Scott Lifschultz, EVP of GVA Williams, says the deal was struck after the brokerage firm held discussions with a number of other retailers for the space. The store will total approximately 9,000 sf. The remainder of the store will be used for storage.

"Retail on Greenwich Avenue is only improving as several new tenants have joined the fray recently, including: Fila, Rugby, Lucky Jeans, BCBG and now Zara," he notes. GVA Williams brokered deals on Greenwich Ave. with Fila and Lucky Jeans in 2006.

Cory Gubner, president and CEO of GVA William of Connecticut, adds that his firm is currently marketing a number of other major retail spaces on Greenwich Ave., as well as other "high signature spaces available throughout Fairfield County."
