The project was done for Kessler by the Gale Construction Co., Florham Park, a subsidiary of Mack-Cali Realty Corp., and designed by architects Nadaskay-Kopelson. The expansion creates a new main entrance to the entire facility, which is Kessler's main location. It also adds a 48-bed spinal cord injury unit and a similarly-sized traumatic brain injury unit. Additional parking was also created through the expansion.

It also marks the fifth and largest project done for the Kessler Institute by Gale Construction, according to that company's president, Thomas Walsh. Earlier projects included renovations at here and at locations in Cedar Grove, Saddle Brook, both in New Jersey, and a new 75,000-sf facility in Rockville, MD.
