The award was announced by the Newtown Square, PA-based firm. Company executives say the project is expected to have a five-year initial development period valued in excess of $160 million covering 628 housing units. The project will involve the development, management, construction, and renovation of homes and other ancillary facilities and amenities.
A company spokesperson says that program calls for GMH to build and eventually own and manage the housing for a 50-year period. She adds that the firm is now in the Community Management Development Plan Period where the Department of Defense, officials at West Point and the firm will outline the scope and specifics of the project. GMH hopes that the transaction will close by late fall 2007 with construction starting immediately after the deal is finalized.
"We are extremely honored to have been awarded this historic project, and look forward to providing high-quality housing communities to the military members and their families at West Point," says Bruce Robinson, president of the GMH military housing division.
Centex Construction Co. of Dallas will provide construction services for the project and Niles Bolton Associates of Atlanta has been retained for planning and architecture of the development.
