Houston Premium Outlets will have 120 stores when it opens in second quarter 2008. A spokeswoman for Chelsea Property Group tells GlobeSt.com that leasing activity is brisk for the project, going up near Texas 290 between Mason Road and Fairfield Drive. The project's construction budget isn't available.
"We've been very well-received by the merchant community and outlet sector," the spokeswoman says. She wouldn't disclose any tenants' names nor speculate if it will be fully leased by the opening. Chelsea's other three Texas outlet centers are Allen Premium Outlets, north of Dallas, Round Rock Premium Outlets in the Austin area and Rio Grande Valley Premium Outlets just north of the US-Mexican border.
The Houston Premium Outlets are just east of the 100-acre Fairfield Town Centre, a development by Chelsea's parent, the Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group Inc. The 800,000-sf Fairfield Town Centre is scheduled to open in late 2008 or early 2009. It has yet to break ground.
The Houston Premium Outlets' architect is the Collaborative Inc. from Cleveland. Bury & Partners of Houston is the civil engineer and Atlanta-based Hardin Construction is the general contractor.
