"John has many years experience in the affordable housing industry as a senior executive at the CPC, a major nonprofit in helping developers finance and build affordable housing," says Daniel Martin, HPDC president and CEO, in a statement. "With his prior experience on our board and his steady involvement in the city's affordable housing business, which has changed and evolved over the past 25 years, John is a natural fit for the leadership position."
The three-year board member McCarthy will take Naomi Bayer's spot. Bayer has held the position of chair for the last three years and been a board member for the past nine years. McCarthy is the EVP and COO of the Community Preservation Corp., a nonprofit group that serves as a lender for affordable housing throughout the tri-state area, and has held these positions for more than 20 years. More than 90 banks and life insurance companies form the Community Preservation Corp.
Additionally, Thomas Osterman, EVP of Sterling Equities Inc. and Jim Himes, director of Enterprise New York and VP of Enterprise Community Partners, have been appointed to the board of directors, bringing the group to a total of 13.
