The expansion is scheduled to be complete by Sept. 28, and will coordinate with the mall's 30th anniversary, says a Taubman spokeswoman. "The mall will have more than 200 stores by the time everything opens," she tells GlobeSt.com.

She says the mall has had to turn away retailers because it was too full, and that the expansion will allow more stores in. About 22 retailers have agreed to move into the mall, she says. The list includes Martin & Osa (a division of American Eagle Outfitters), Arden B, Lucky Brand Jeans, Levi's Store, Hallmark Gold Crown, Florsheim, Skechers, Select Comfort, A|X Armani Exchange, Puma, J.B. Robinsons Jewelers and Tapper's Diamonds and Fine Jewelry

The spokeswoman refused to provide lease rates for the new tenants. According to a year-end report by Signature Associates, retail lease rates for this type of property in Novi average $18 to $26 per sf.
