IRVINE, CA-MBK Homes Southern California has unveiled its 114-unit Ravello townhouse development adjacent to the recently renovated and repositioned 780,000-sf Whittwood Town Center in Whittier. The MBK Ravello project features units of three and four bedrooms that range from 1,644 sf to 1,838 sf, with shared amenities such as the community pool for residents.

Rick Fletcher, vice president of sales and marketing for MBK Homes, describes the project as an answer to the growth in Whittier in recent years and the demand for housing near shopping venues like the repositioned Whittwood Town Center. The Whittwood Center is a redevelopment of LNR Property Corp.

The LNR revamp of the Whittwood Town Center, which is nearly 50 years old, modernized the shopping venue to include a variety of new retailers, specialty shops, restaurants and a food court. Fletcher notes that Ravello will complete the retail and residential village, all of which is connected by plazas, green space and a walking path.

Besides its proximity to Whittwood Town Center, Ravello is also located within a mile of local preschools and K-12 schools, with Whittier College and Biola University within about three miles of the gated townhome development. Designed by William Hezmalhalch Architects, Ravello showcases classic Spanish, Colonial and Craftsman architecture to reflect the City of Whittier's varied history.

MBK Homes, which develops both attached and detached housing throughout California, is a unit of Mitsui USA, the US arm of Japan's Mitsui & Co. Ltd. Among the many attached and detached housing developments that the company has under way is a Gardena project recently reported on GlobeSt.com.

For the Gardena development MBK recently acquired a seven-acre site on the south side of Artesia Boulevard, between Western and Normandie avenues, where the Irvine-based company plans to develop 97 townhouses, 34 of them to be live/work units. The project will be the first new residential development in the City of Gardena's recently adopted Artesia Corridor Specific Plan.
