The new owner has some changes in store for the 27-year-old property. On tap is a major renovation estimated to cost somewhere in the $4 million. It will also get a new name--Hotels Unlimited execs say they will re-flag the five-story, 114-key property as a Radisson.
"The hotel will undergo an exterior facelift and floor-to-ceiling guest room refurbishing," says Hotels Unlimited vice president Doran Tajfel. "We have planned extensive renovations and improvements for all of the interior spaces, including the meeting facilities and ballroom, and we will expand the hotel's offerings as a wedding destination."
Hotels Unlimited officials say the property will remain open for business during the makeover, which is slated to be completed in about one year. Built in 1980, the property operated as a Sheraton for a decade in the 1980s and '90s under a previous owner.
Freehold Gardens is the second property acquired by Hotels Unlimited in the region in the past several weeks--in late March the company, through an affiliate, bought the 174-room Holiday Inn in Tinton Falls. And Hotels Unlimited has two other nearby properties under construction and slated for delivery in 2008, a Hampton Inn here and a Hilton Garden Inn in Lakewood.
