The makeover was launched more than a year ago, not long after current owner Buccini/Pollin Group bought the asset. As reported by GlobeSt.com, BPG acquired the property, located across Route 3 from the Meadowlands Sports Complex, in late 2005 from the Blackstone Group and Prime Hospitality for $54 million. The hotel is managed by the Washington, DC-based BPG's hotel management affiliate, PM Hospitality Strategies.

"The renovation will be done in phases in order to be least disruptive to guests," BPG president Dave Pollin said in announcing the redo more than a year ago.

"The hotel remained operational while it was almost completely renovated," says a spokesman for McGowan Builders, the North Bergen, NJ-based construction manager for the makeover. "One very interesting detail was that we were able to identify a US-based manufacturer that produced bathroom vanities for 20% of what it would have cost to produce them in China as originally planned, and delivered them in four weeks versus 24-week delivery from China."

Besides McGowan Builders' participation as construction manager, the renovation team included BBG-BBGM as the architect.
