MOORPARK, CA-One of Southern California's largest independently owned home appliance and plumbing fixture retailers, Warehouse Discount Center, has relocated to a newly built 132,500-sf headquarters and distribution center that has recently been completed by the Thousand Oaks office of Oltmans Construction Co. The new facility, which also includes retail showroom space to be operated by WDC, is situated on an 8.2-acre site at 14349 White Sage Rd., south of Highway 118.
The new project replaces Warehouse Discount Center offices in Agoura Hills, the company's building division in Camarillo and its main distribution center in Simi Valley. The WDC Agoura store will remain open as a retail operation.
Phil Saide, project manager in the Thousand Oaks office of Oltmans, explains that the 132,500 sf of space at the new WDC location includes a 115,000-sf building that features a 23,000-sf retail showroom and 15,100 sf of office/administration space, warehouse and distribution center. A second, 17,500-sf retail building is earmarked for lease, with Ortho Mattress having already leased half of that facility.
Warehouse Discount Center employs approximately 50 workers at the new location in Moorpark. According to Tom Schlender, president and CEO of WDC, the new headquarters "brings key aspects of our business under one roof for increased efficiencies." He notes that the project was completed on time and on budget.
Designed by Poliquin Kellogg Design Group of Woodland Hills, the WDC headquarters is located on an elevated site overlooking Highway 23 and was designed to complement Moorpark's Mission architecture. It is part of a WDC operation that includes more than 150 employees, with stores in Agoura Hills, Chatsworth, Canyon Country, Northridge, Oxnard, Santa Barbara and Moorpark.
