Fears was known as a dedicated manager, who would reportedly patrol the grounds daily in a golf cart to check the property. She also was a key IREM member who volunteered constantly with the foundation, says its president E. Craig Surhbier. "She was a very special person, it's appropriate that we have this scholarship for her," he tells GlobeSt.com. "She was very professional, and very committed to the ideals of a real estate manager. We've asked our 18,000 members worldwide to help fund the scholarship. I know several companies and individuals are going to participate, and we will make a donation as a foundation."

Those interested in donating to the Bette Fears ARM Memorial Scholarship Fund may send a tax-deductible contribution to the IREM Foundation headquarters at 430 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL, 60611. Donations are also accepted through the institute's website.
