LIVERMORE, CA-National Food Laboratory plans to move its headquarters here in early 2008 via two leases that the company has signed for 20,000 sf of office space and 30,000 sf of R&D space. According to Cornish & Carey Commercial/Oncor brokers who negotiated the deal, the food research, development and marketing firm will occupy the office space at 365 N. Canyons Parkway and the R&D space at 2441 Constitution Dr.

The National Food Laboratory is an independent affiliate of the Grocery Manufacturers Association and the Food Products Association. The laboratory was established in 1976 and for the past 22 years it has been headquartered at 6363 Clark Ave. in Dublin.

In its move to Livermore, the laboratory was represented by John Hone and Marcy Place of the Pleasanton office of Cornish & Carey. Hone and Place explain that the building that National Food will occupy on Constitution Drive is owned and occupied by Western Flavors and Fragrances, which no longer needs the space because it was acquired last year by Flavor & Fragrance Group.

WFF is in the process of selling the Constitution Drive property and is in escrow with the locally based Robison Family Trust, which owns the office building on Canyons Parkway that National Food plans to occupy. The North Canyons Parkway property will house a facility called the Innovation Center, where National Food will operate test kitchens, tasting booths, convention rooms and showrooms.

The North Canyon Parkway building will undergo extensive renovations to accommodate the new operations. At its Constitution Drive building, National Food plans to conduct research and development at a new technology center that will be staffed by food chemists, microbiologists and food processing experts.
