VALENCIA, CA-Mechanix Wear, a marketer of gloves used on the Nascar circuit, has moved into a new 75,000-sf headquarters building on a five-acre site here, according to Oltmans Construction Co., general contractor for the $11 million project. The facility, which serves as the world headquarters and distribution center for Mechanix Wear, will periodically welcome Nascar vehicles for display and now has Dale Earnhardt Jr's. Number Eight Budweiser Car along with Tony Stewart's Number 20 Home Depot Car on display in the lobby.
The 75,000-sf building at 28525 Witherspoon Parkway is situated northwest of the intersection of Interstate 126 and Interstate 5. It is a project of Sheridan Ebbert Real Estate Development of Sylmar, which also served as construction manager.
Oltmans Construction Co's. Ventura County office was general contractor for the built-to-suit facility, with Poliquin Kellogg Design of Woodland Hills as the project architect. Mechanix Wear is expected to employ approximately 75 workers at the site.
Henry Skornik, project manager for Oltmans, notes that the concrete tilt-up structure features 20,000 sf of office space, a two-story lobby/reception area, a second floor that overlooks the lobby, glass wall executive offices, a video-conferencing board room and elevator service. The warehouse portion of the building provides racking for high-pile storage, electric dock levelers and other features.
Privately held Mechanix Wear's "Original Gloves" were first used by pit crew teams at the 1992 Daytona 500 and have since grown ever more popular in the high performance work glove market. Thereafter, the company's gloves have been used by 45 Nascar teams as well as motor sports teams in every type of racing, according to the company's web site.
