The shopping center, which originally opened in 1968 as a single level regional center, has since grown through remodeling and expansion to include more than 200 retailers. The latest renovation will include improvements to the food court, the center court and the overall interior of the mall.
The remodeling of the 134,000-sf Nordstrom store is scheduled to begin in February and to be complete in October. It will include new tile, the updating of dressing rooms, new fixtures and updated lighting, new entrance doors and new exterior landscaping as well as a remodeling its café.
Changes to the food court will be designed to convert it into "an upscale dining experience." Other changes at the shopping center will include new family restrooms, new seating areas and a new play area.
General Growth is also developing plans to create a lifestyle retail expansion for the vacant former Macy's building at the center, according to mall officials. In addition to its anchors and retail shops, the mall features restaurants that include Applebee's, Olive Garden, Elephant Bar, Tony Roma's, Acapulco, Stuart Anderson's Black Angus, Romano's Macaroni Grill and Chili's Grill and Bar.
General Growth has not disclosed a price tag for the Montclair Plaza renovations, which mark the first major upgrades to the mall in about 20 years. The property is located at 5060 Montclair Plaza Lane off of the Interstate 10 Freeway.
