The hotel will include 6,000 sf of meeting space, including an outdoor sundeck for social events. It will also feature an on-site restaurant, outdoor pool, fitness center and business center. It is expected to open in the second quarter of 2009. "Changes in the Fort Lauderdale market have created the demand for upscale assets to accommodate its many business travelers, and we are confident that Crowne Plaza will perform well in this market," says Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Brand Management, vice president Gina LaBarre, in a prepared statement.

The hotel will be located one-half mile from the airport and will also be in close proximity to the Downtown business district, the Broward County Convention Center and Port Everglades, where more than 5,300 ships call each year.

"We've seen a lot of development in Fort Lauderdale, but not in the upscale market where Crowne Plaza is a natural fit," says Luckey's Management Inc. president and CEO Jay Patel, in a released statement. "We currently own and operate a Holiday Inn Express and a Candlewood Suites and are pleased with the results."
