The store, located not far from an existing Food Circus-owned Super Foodtown unit in Red Bank, will be the 10th store owned and operated by the Middletown-based company. Food Circus, whose stores are all in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex counties in Central New Jersey, is part of the Avenel-based Foodtown cooperative.

The previous Stop & Shop store has been remodeled and remerchandised, according to Joseph Azzolina Sr., president of Food Circus and a long-time state assemblyman. Details of the acquisition of the property were not released.

The opening follows Food Circus' closure of its store in Ocean Township, which was replaced by a Spirits Unlimited liquor store operated by an affiliated company. Food Circus has also announced plans to open a Super Foodtown in 2008 on Route 35 in nearby Hazlet.
