More details will follow, but at a Monday morning press conference, RIM's co-CEO James Balsillie said the office will add 1,000 jobs to the region over the next two years. He credited the decision to Dallas/Fort Worth's proximity to the growing Latin American and Mexican markets and Texas' "pro-business environment."

The US headquarters office will be at Riverside Commons at 5000 Riverside Dr. The 10-year lease takes the entire Building Six, which is Brazos Building East and two floors in Building Five, which is Brazos Building West. The deal pushes occupancy to 78% in six buildings totaling 455,000 sf.

"RIM is a world-class organization, widely recognized for its innovation and business excellence," said Ron Gafford, chairman of the greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce and president and CEO of Austin Industries Inc., in a press release. "We are thrilled that the company has selectd our region as the location of its US headquarters."
