SAN FRANCISCO-AMB Property Corp. has signed DHL Exel Supply Chain to lease 590,000 sf of space in North America, Europe and Asia, including 491,000 sf near the ports of Seattle and Tacoma. The 491,000-sf portion of the leases is at AMB Valley Distribution Center at 2202 Perimeter Rd. in Auburn, WA, in the Kent Valley region.
DHL Exel Supply Chain, a Deutsche Post World Net company, is AMB's top customer and a global market leader in the international express and logistics industry, notes Hamid R. Moghadam, AMB's chairman and CEO. The Seattle area space that DHL Exel will lease will serve as Exel's new West Coast regional distribution hub.
The AMB Valley Distribution Center provides immediate access to highways providing connections throughout the region. With the 491,000-sf agreement and General Electric's previously announced lease of 260,000 sf, the Valley Distribution project is now fully leased.
The other space that DHL is leasing from AMB includes an 85,000-sf facility at the Port of Rotterdam, which is Europe's largest logistic and industrial hub, to support DHL's freight transportation and related logistics services. The facility is called AMB Eemhaven Distribution Center 2 and is located at a convergence of sea, rail and road connections that serve Dutch distribution locations as well as the rest of Europe.
In addition, DHL has leased 14,000 sf from AMB at Singapore's Changi International Airport, which ranks in the top 10 airports globally for air cargo tonnage and is a premier location for companies due to its free trade zone status and dedicated air cargo entrances. DHL is running third-party logistics operations for a major Texas-based technology company from its facility at Changi.
In addition to these leases, as of Sept. 30, DHL parent Deutsche Post World Net had 53 leases totaling more than 3.5 million sf in locations across North America, Europe and Asia.
