Acquest Development Inc. is the developer of the project, which includes a renovation of the rooms, a new fitness center and the addition of the Table Restaurant, Café Zinc and Oxygen 02 Bar. About 8,300 sf of the hotel's meeting space will also become the new H.H. Dow Leadership Academy, dedicated for Dow's executive leadership program. The academy will open in January, the restaurants will be complete in April and the entire project should be finished by the end of 2008. Montvale, NJ-based Dolce International is the hotel management firm.

Acquest built the Ashman in 1993 in a partnership with Dow. The hotel was originally designed to be a Marriott, but the executives decided to shoot for a higher level of service, says Joan Cleland, president of Acquest.

Cleland tells GlobeSt.com that the renovation will help boost Downtown. "Dow wants to give back and help the community, as well as add amenities to the Downtown to attract employees. This just adds to the reinvention of the area, which includes the new $33-million Dow Diamond minor league baseball park for the Single-A Great Lakes Loons team, affiliated with the Los Angeles Dodgers." The stadium, which opened in the Downtown in April, will host the 2008 Midwest League All Star Game.
