The news comes after executives decided to ax One Thousand Steps, a footwear chain that launched in April. That concept only had nine stores when the announcement was its closure announcement was made in October.
The company is closing the chains to better focus on its 841-unit PacSun chain, said Chairwoman and CEO Sally Frame Kasaks, in a statement. As a result of these newest Demo closures, Pacific Sunwear will incur charges of $35 million to $50 million, due to the termination of leases and other costs.
Additionally, Pacific Sunwear is closing its Anaheim distribution center in April and focusing all of its supply-chain operations at its facility in Olathe, KS. Management expects $3 million in charges as a result of this move.
DJM Realty will assist Pacific Sunwear with the disposition of the remaining Demo stores. The Melville, NY-based firm has been busy of late, disposing of the CompUSA portfolio, Bombay Co. stores and other chains.
