The Schneider company will own and manage the eight-story property, and will contribute a percentage of revenue to InterContinental. The companies are working on renovation project to the Executive West, which had a total of 596 rooms. The conversion will reportedly cost up to $28 million. When finished, the renovated hotel will offer a fitness center, an indoor and outdoor pool, a gift shop, multiple dining outlets and a 50,000-sf meeting and banquet space.

An IHG spokeswoman tells GlobeSt.com that the new hotel is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2008. The property, located less than a mile from the Louisiana International Airport, is expected to draw executives for nearby companies including UPS, Ford, Yum! Brands and Humana Healthcare.

InterContinental has other locations in the works across the country, including a $34-million project to convert a former Clarion Hotel in Tampa, FL into a 250-room Crowne Plaza, and the construction of a 150-key Crowne Plaza hotel in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The company also plans to build a $77-million, 364-room Crowne Plaza in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
