The Kukuiula Village development site at the intersection of Poipu and Lawai Roads is centrally located on Kauai's south shore and adjacent to attractions such as Poipu Beach, the National Tropical Botanical Gardens and Spouting Horn Park. The location is along a route called the Western Bypass Road, now under construction, that will be known as Ala Kalanikaumaka when it is completed.
Tenants that have signed for retail space include restaurateur Peter Merriman for two restaurants, one a 4,000-sf fine dining venue called Merriman's Kaua'i and the other a 3,000-sf casual dining spot called Merriman's Café. Other tenants will include apparel chains Tommy Bahama and Quiksilver, Italian eyewear shop Sole Mio and jewelry store Maui Divers.
The retail development will serve as the gateway to Kukuiula, a planned multi-phase, 1,010-acre luxury residential resort community. The resort will feature up to 1,500 Hawaiian plantation-style residences, a garden spa and health and wellness center, an 18-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course, a five-star boutique hotel, access to an adjacent 20-acre lake, a working agricultural farm and orchid hothouse, extensive walking paths and trails and several large community parks.
The developer of the retail portion of Kukuiula is Kukuiula Village LLC, a partnership between affiliates of DMB Associates and A&B Properties, which is a subsidiary of Alexander & Baldwin Inc., one of Hawai'i's largest private landowners. The overall Kukuiula community is being developed by Kukuiula Development Co., which is also an affiliate of DMB and A&B.
The project is being designed by Architects Hawaii Ltd. of Honolulu and Kaua'i Design & Architecture of Koloa, with construction by Unlimited Construction Services Inc. of Lihue, engineering by Wilson Okamoto Corp. of Honolulu and landscaping by McClevey Associates of Honolulu.
