Fitness One, an Arizona-based chain, will anchor the center as will a multi-entertainment component with a 48-lane bowling alley, laser tag, video arcade and restaurant and sports bar. The 65,000-sf entertainment venue is being developed by Victory Lanes LLC of Surprise, which signed a 10-year-lease with Glimcher Ventures for the project, set to rise at the intersection of Waddell and Litchfield roads.
David Glimcher, president of the Scottsdale-based development firm, says Victory Lanes' bowling alley is a prototype that's being rolled out in Arizona. He goes on to say that if it's successful that it could be incorporated in other suburbs. "There's serious interest in this. We've been contacted by a number of cities in the Valley to see if we can put in similar projects in those areas," Glimcher tells GlobeSt.com. "People are social beings who like to be together. When you can group entertainment in one location, it works really well."
The second phase will be the launch pad for more concepts: Three Tomatoes and Mozzarella Pronto, an Italian restaurant, and Howie's Game Shak, a California-based PC and Xbox gaming center. The second phase is expected to be up and running toward the end of this year.
Glimcher broker ground last May on a 175,000-sf first phase of the $75-million Shoppes at Surprise Pointe. The 20-acre phase will be completed in May. Its 90%-leased roster sports a 14-screen UltraStar Cinemas as well as shops and restaurants.
