"This is really an evolution in which I will be focusing 100% on sustainability so that we can take some of the things that we have done in asset services and apply them on a consistent basis across all service lines and across a larger portfolio," Pogue tells GlobeSt.com. Pogue explains that in his previous position as senior managing director for the western region of CBRE's Asset Services Group, he was directly responsible for asset services for the 250 million sf of western region assets in CBRE's 635-million-sf US portfolio of managed properties. In addition, he headed the Asset Services Sensible Sustainability program for the entire 635 million sf.
"We are going to take the sensible sustainability effort and apply it more widely across all of our lines of business, including facilities management and corporate services," Pogue says. No successor has been named yet to take over Pogue's previous post as head of asset services for CBRE's western region.
Pogue's new post is the latest in a series of expansions of its sustainability programs by CBRE, which recently was named by the Environmental Protection Agency as a 2008 Energy Star Partner for its efforts toward improved energy management and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. CBRE, which is the only commercial real estate services firm designated as an Energy Star Partner this year, will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, DC on April 1.
Among the actions and policies that have led to the Energy Star recognition is CBRE's commitment to become carbon neutral in its own operations by 2010, making it the first commercial real estate services company to announce such a goal. In addition, the company is assisting its clients with energy efficiency programs at the 1.7 billion sf of building space that the Los Angeles-based company manages around the world.
