A spokeswoman says the decision to locate the hospital in the city was made for two reasons. "One, there's no hospital with 12 miles, and two, this is the fastest-growing area in the state," she tells GlobeSt.com. The city has the highest growth rate of all cities in southeastern Wisconsin, according to the US Census Bureau, and there are 33 residential developments underway in various stages in the community.
Mayor Tom Taylor said in a statement that the new facility is a great addition to the Franklin/Oak Creek area, which includes the S. 27th Street corridor. Developments currently underway on the corridor include the phase-two expansion of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co.'s office campus, to accommodate 1,100 more employees, and a new five-story Staybridge Suites hotel.
Roger Rhodes, VP of operations for the company, said in a statement that the new hospital is designed with a focus on outpatient services. "Our goal is to get patients back to their productive lives more quickly," he said. The new facility reportedly can be expanded by two more levels.
The company also tried to build green, following the Green Guide for Hospital Construction, but is not LEED certified. The facility was built using as many natural and local building materials and stone as possible, native plants and undisturbed wetlands, and energy-efficient hvac, as well as low mercury fluorescence lamps.
