The store will be Target's fourth in Westchester County, with existing locations in Mount Vernon, Mount Kisco and White Plains. The deal with Target is part of a planned $50-million reconfiguration of New Roc City from an entertainment complex into a more retail-oriented facility.
"The tremendous success we have enjoyed with New Roc, combined with the occupancy of hundreds of new downtown housing units, including our own Trump Plaza project, has created an environment that is of interest to major retailers such as Target. They are now seeking to come to downtown New Rochelle, and New Roc City offers the venue, the location and the floor space that they need," says Louis Cappelli, president of Cappelli Enterprises.
New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson adds, "Target's decision to open in our central business district reflects the growing economic vitality of our downtown, and the enthusiasm among entrepreneurs and investors for the exceptional business opportunities in our city." Cappelli officials say that part of the reconfiguration of the nine-year-old center will include the construction of two new levels in the space now occupied by an ice rink. New Roc will be looking for at least one other national department store as well as other anchor tenants at the complex. Among New Roc's major tenants include Regal Cinemas and Applebee's. Company officials say the redevelopment of New Roc City will create hundreds of construction jobs, 324 permanent jobs when completed and nearly $10 million in sales tax revenues for the city, county and state.
Also in New Rochelle, Cappelli, in partnership with Donald Trump, is building Trump Plaza, a 34-story luxury condominium tower. The firm is also in the final stages in the approval process for LeCount Square, a nearly 1.2-million-sf mixed-use development that will feature retail, office, residential and hotel uses.
