Teppco Buys Three Sites for $75M Terminal Plan

Headquartered in Houston, Teppco Partners' only terminals are a refined product facility in Aberdeen, MS and a refined product and a 500,000-barrel transport terminal currently under construction in Boligee, AL. When the three Tennessee terminals are completed in 2010, they will have 800,000 barrels of storage capacity for gasoline and biofuels as well as offering improved trucking logistics.

"The addition of these new terminals represents the continued successful implementation of our strategy to develop a network of refined products distribution facilities along inland waterways in the southeastern United States," Jerry E. Thompson, president and CEO of Teppco Partners, says in a press release. "Beginning with the purchase of our 130,000-barrel terminal in Aberdeen, MS and continuing with construction of the partnership's 500,000- barrel terminal in Boligee, AL, these facilities are well positioned to better serve the local markets."

A spokesman with Teppco says the added benefit of the Boligee terminal is that it's close to Colonial Pipeline in Alpharetta, GA. "The new products supplied from Colonial will interconnect at Boligee. The barges going up and down the river system will load at Boligee, then transport the products to the new terminals we're building," the spokesman explains to GlobeSt.com.

The spokesman says the new terminals will have outstanding access to major roadways and all three will be rail-served in addition to being located along rivers. "Western Tennessee has been in need of improved logistics for getting these products to end users and consumers," the spokesman stresses. "With these terminals, we'll be able to provide access with different modes of transportation to get the fuels to the end user."

As Teppco goes through the permitting process for the two terminals, its team also is wrapping up final details to acquire land for another terminal in the southeast. The spokesman says Teppco is planning a network of similar terminals in areas along rivers in the Southeast and Midwest although there is no timeline for when they will be built. The ideal site, he adds, will be on a waterway system and have access to major roadways. While rail-served land would be desirable, it's not a deal-breaker, either. "Our plan is to look for opportunities and land that will allow us to reach markets where improved logistics are needed," the spokesman says.
