The nine-year-old hotel at 830 N. St. Mary's St. is owned by RW Hotel Associates LP of Farmington Hills, MI. The owner's affiliate, Trans Inns Management Inc., will oversee the re-flagged hotel through a license agreement with Atlanta-based InterContinental Hotel Group. Also being converted to Hotel Indigo is the nearby 100-year-old Gibbs Building at 105 Alamo Plaza, which will be operational by fall.

Gayle Jett, IHG's director of brand management, says three more Hotel Indigos are in the Texas pipeline or under construction. The properties in Irving's Las Colinas, Galveston and Waco are ground-up construction. The hotels are expected to come on line by 2010. Hotel Indigos are currently operational in Dallas and Houston.

"When we look for a conversion hotel that would be a good fit for Hotel Indigo, we look for business demand generators and locations in close proximity to area dining, shopping and entertainment hot spots," Jett tells GlobeSt.com. "It's important to us that our guests are also within walking distance to the local area attractions."

The Riverwalk hotel is within walking distance of the Baptist Medical Center and the Municipal Auditorium. The Hotel Indigo San Antonio at the Alamo is in the Downtown. Both properties are just blocks from each other.
