SSP specializes in placing food and beverage offerings in transportation venues. It operates 2,000 outlets for chains like Burger King, M&S Simply Food, Pizza Hut and others in 29 countries.

SSP is currently planning the food and beverage outlets for the Geneva International Airport and earlier this year opened 19 offerings in a new terminal at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport. It was also awarded the contract for all future eateries in a new wing of the Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The move by Starbucks comes as it cuts domestic store growth and is ramping up its international units. It is now opening less than 400 new US stores per year between 2009 and 2011, down from the 1,077 it opened last year.

Internationally, though, Starbucks is planning 1,050 new locations in 2009, 1,150 in 2010, and 1,300 in 2011. The company currently operates about 3,000 international units in 37 countries.
