The new Aloft Hotel is part of a $60 million master-planned, mixed-use development called HavenPark, near Ontario Airport and the Ontario Convention Center. The development features 150,000 sf of class A office space, 22,000 sf of retail space, a full-service restaurant and the Aloft hotel.

The new hotel is the first in a series of the Aloft brand that is slated for development by the joint venture over the next several years, with the second scheduled to open in suburban Nashville this September. The John Buck Co. oversees development of the hotels for the joint venture.

The Aloft brand has announced more than 90 development projects, in more than 10 countries. Among the others in the new chain are Alofts that are scheduled to open shortly in Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Lexington, MA, Rogers-Bentonville, AR and Beijing, China.

The new brand includes design touches such as nine-foot ceilings and oversized windows to create a bright, airy environment on the order of a loft. The hotel also is introducing a combination high-tech office and entertainment center into the design, including wireless Internet access and a host of electronic gadgetry connections.

Starwood has also broken ground on an Aloft in Aventura, FL that will be owned and developed by Cabi Aventura Hotel LLP and Aventura Development. The 215-room hotel is expected to open in November 2009 and is one of six aloft brands planned throughout Florida.
