The building, which has 55,000 sf of office space, will serve as the headquarters for Dreams Retail, warehouse space and distribution center for the company's brick and mortar stores as well as online sales through its online FansEdge and Field of Dreams, Bates says. Dreams Retail had been leasing only 60,000 sf in Niles but had outgrown the facility, he says. Though retail has been suffering of late, Dreams Retail appears to be one of the exceptions, Bates says. "We are just thriving," he says.
Staubach Co. VP Robin Stolberg, who was not involved in the lease transaction, says that many companies are seeking to stay in northern Cook County. "You have good access to the highway system," he says. There is not a large demand of buildings that are larger than 150,000 sf in the area, Stolberg says. The former Crate & Barrel facility is a "great asset. It was not on the market for that long of a period of time," he says. The asking lease rate for the facility had been $6.25 per sf, net, Bates tells GlobeSt.com.
