The buildings at 450-460 Washington St., 3,800 sf each, are also the first LEED-certified residences built in this city, and are part of phase one of what LPCCD officials term an "urban eco-village," rising on a series of blighted lots. Cost of the six was $3.5 million, and the total investment for phase one including additional units being constructed on adjacent sites on Washington and Crawford streets is $9 million.
"This project manifests many of Newark's greatest strengths--faith in Newark, unity of community and commitment to a cleaner and greener urban environment," says Mayor Cory Booker, in a statement. "In creating this project, Lincoln Park and its partners are defining our city as a leader in urban transformation."
For LPCCD, the mixed-use phase one is part of a larger mission to develop an arts and cultural district in this city's Lincoln Park section.
