Jack Moran, president of the companies, tells GlobeSt.com that demand will skyrocket soon when the $550 million Honda plant next door opens in September. "The area is grossly underserved now by hotel and retail, and has also lacked meeting and function space," he says. The Indianapolis hotel market itself has also been doing well, he says, "averaging more than 78% occupancy."
The new hotel features 2,500 sf of meeting and function space, a private board room and hospitality suites, as well as a dedicated parking area for buses and motor homes, which include hook-ups. The building is the anchor to the Station project, Moran says. "We've sold off one of the out-lots to Main Source Bank. We're in discussion with two other retailers for the other two out-lots, at least one of which will be a family restaurant." The Worthington Group will manage the hotel, he says. The property is about 50 miles south of Indianapolis.
The company is based in the Midwest, but is concentrating on other states as well, Moran says. "We've got two more projects opening in Colorado, and another Hampton in Aurora, IL," he says. "The Midwest is okay, though some markets are doing better than others. We're looking at a few other opportunities in Indiana, but we're looking at even more out West."
