LEED 2009 passed USGBC's member ballot and will be introduced in 2009. USGBC did not return a request for comment from GlobeSt.com. The building community has become well acquainted with the adjustments made to LEED over the past year; the organization has held several conferences about its proposed changes as well as two public comment periods.
The end goal of the change was to simplify the system, Scott Horst, chairman of the LEED Steering Committee in a teleconference with industry participants earlier this summer. Among the changes, LEED 2009 incorporates regional credits--extra points that have been identified as priorities within a project's given environmental zone. LEED has also re-weighted the credits to reflect climate change and energy efficiency as higher priorities.
