CACI is shifting these operations from Ft. Monmouth in New Jersey. That army base has been scheduled to close in September 2011 under the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission Act, called BRAC. Aberdeen, by contrast, will be adding staff and operations under these same rules. CACI has said, in fact, that it expects significant growth in its Aberdeen workforce over the next four years.
In general BRAC is expected to add 6,000 new government jobs to the base, approximately 5,000 of which are being relocated from New Jersey. Opus East was granted the right to develop a 400-acre site within the base's perimeter under the Army's Enhanced Use Lease program. CACI's single story R&D facility is part of Opus East's phase one of development of this private-sector enclave, which is called the Government and Technology Enterprise park.
