Jim Edmonds, Port of Houston commission chairman said in a release about the appointment that the agency is in the meantime moving forward on a national search for a new executive director. There was no word as to whether Battles is being considered for the permanent position.
A 10-year veteran with the Port of Houston, Battles takes the reigns with a great deal of experience in the organization's administrative and operational departments. Prior to joining the Port of Houston in 1999, Battles was assistant port director at the Port of Miami.
"We are fortunate to have Wade Battles, a veteran in the maritime industry, to lead PHA during this transition," said Edmonds in the release. "During his nearly 10 years of service to the port authority, Wade's experience and expertise have been instrumental in our success, including such achievements as recognition as the nation's first port authority to achieve ISO 14001 for our Environmental Management System and as the world's first port authority to achieve ISO 28000:2007 certification for our Security Management System."
Representatives with the Port of Houston could not be reached for comment by deadline.
