The city and the transportation authority are planning the new facility to provide easy connections between the various locations in Anaheim and to other parts of Orange County and Southern California. The facility will link travel via train, car, intercity bus, taxi and local transit, with future plans for high-speed train service.

The Artic site is across from the Honda Center, which is the home of the Anaheim Ducks hockey team and near Angel Stadium, home to the Angels baseball team. The initial phase of the Artic development will involve relocating the existing Metrolink station from its current location at Angel Stadium at Anaheim to the Artic site across from Honda Center.

Artic is multi-year, multi-phase project with each phase coinciding with new and/or expanded transportation services and development. The first phase will consist of site work and preparation, a transportation center and supporting facilities, railway tracks and platforms, parking, public art and street improvements.

City and transit officials cite the growing Anaheim population of nearly 350,000 and the burgeoning Orange County population among the reasons for the project. With a population of more than three million, Orange County is the second largest county in California and the fifth largest county in the nation, they note. The population is expected to continue to grow to 3.7 million by 2040.
