The Vancouver site employees 700 people, while eBay has 16,200 employees worldwide. Personnel will increase at the Salt Lake City location as well as a couple other sites around the globe to prepare for the center's close at the end of September. Although it remains to be seen how many new positions will open at the other locations.
The San Jose, CA-based company's officials expect the move to improve efficiency and customer service. Its recent financial reports showed falling sales and profits, leaving executives to find effective ways to cut costs.
