The new Santa Monica Place, which is steps away from Macerich's corporate headquarters, also features a third-level Dining Deck with ocean views. The repositioned center will include 20 new retail and restaurant tenants.

[IMGCAP(2)]Randy Brant, EVP of real estate, for Macerich, points out that the August debut of the newly renovated center coincides with prime tourist time in Santa Monica. The property, at at Broadway and Third Street, is now a three-level, open-air venue two blocks from the beach and adjacent to the Third Street Promenade.

The new Santa Monica Place design features open-air walkways, public gathering spaces and other design elements that capitalize on Santa Monica's climate and the Santa Monica Place ocean-view location. The Jerde Partnership, Venice, CA is the design architect, with Dallas-based Omniplan as the executive architect.

The new Bloomingdale's replaces a former Macy's store at Santa Monica Place.When Macy's Inc. unveiled its plans to introduce the Bloomingdale's in Santa Monica, Brant pointed out that the decision would bring Bloomingdale's closer to customers west of the 405 Freeway.

In addition to anchors Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom, the tenant lineup includes a host of specialty retailers. Among them are fashion retailer Kitson, accessory and gift specialist Coach, Joe's Jeans, True Religion denim and sportswear, Ed Hardy fashion, LTJ Arthur homewear and beachwear and others. Restaurants announced for the Dining Deck, include XINO Chinese cuisine, Ozumo Japanese fare , Zengo Latin-Asian cuisine, La Sandia upscale Mexican restaurant and Pizza Antica.
