According to Jim Smith, chief technology officer of Digital Realty Trust, in addition to the 1500 Space Park project the company also has 10 additional data center projects currently in the LEED certification process. Smith adds that Northern California's climate is conducive to air-side economization, which the company is employing at one of its other facilities in the area. "We plan to continue using it in Silicon Valley and other markets where we can take advantage of the climate to increase efficiency and reduce our customers' energy costs while supporting their green IT initiatives," Smith says.
The 1500 Space Park Dr. property abuts Digital Realty's 1100 Space Park facility and is within one mile of its other Santa Clara buildings. Digital Realty said at the time the company acquired 1500 Space Park that its plan was to prepare the existing building with 34,000 square feet of move-in ready data center space and then construct the additional space, up to 343,000 square feet, "in response to market demand."
Digital Realty owns 75 properties in 27 markets throughout Europe and North America. Its holdings comprise approximately 13 million square feet, including 1.2 million square feet of space held for redevelopment.
