The company has signed leases in almost every location, according to KLNB Retail's Susan Kirn, who is overseeing the site selection and lease negotiation program. So far 15 stores have opened, with the remainder expected to open within the next several weeks.
Cricket has been launching in various markets around the country, Kirn tells GlobeSt.com. It recently pushed into the Philadelphia market, she notes. "Now they are working their way down the Mid-Atlantic." Leases signed so far in the region include Golden Ring Mall, Patterson Village, Mondawmin Mall and Centerpoint in Baltimore. In the Washington DC/Northern Virginia market the company has signed space in Iverson Plaza, Senator Square and Montgomery Village.
Cricket's real estate criteria include roadside visibility and healthy daytime and nighttime traffic counts. Kirn predicts there will be substantial dealer infill over the next six to 12 months as well. KLNB Retail is representing both corporate transactions and for dealers such as SK Communications, which is opening five locations in areas including Woodbridge, Dale City and Lorton, VA. Another economic benefit to the region: Cricket's arrival is estimated to bring more than 310 new jobs, approximately 280 of which will be through Cricket's dealer network. Cricket operates in thirty-five states and holds licenses in thirty-five of the top fifty American markets including Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Seattle, Las Vegas, and New Orleans.
