During the past week, the Hamilton County Commissioners and the City Council approved the project's financing plan. The final step will be for the Hamilton County's Convention Facilities Authority to pass the plan. The group is expected to do so next week.

"It's an exciting project in a down year," Lovitt said in the article. "By the time it's ready in early 2011, we believe the economy's going to be ready for it. In the meantime, we think the jobs that are going to be created through construction are also going to be helpful."

The convention center expansion has been in the works for more than two years now. Dan Mayzun of CDS Associates is the lead designer on the project. Megen Construction has been named construction manager.

Initial plans called for fewer square feet of meeting space and a small retail component, but revised plans did away with the retail aspect and expanded the meeting rooms. When complete the center will have a 20,330-square-foot exhibit hall, 33,200 square feet of meeting space as well as an 11,000-square-foot ballroom.

The project also plans to utilize green standards and will try for LEED Silver certification when construction is complete.

Located at 11355 Chester Rd. in Sharonville, the convention center was built in 1994. It sits between I-75, I-71 and I-275 in the Greater Cincinnati area and is just 18 miles from the Ohio River. To read the Business Courier of Cincinnati article click here.
