JLL began its push to expand Richmond in July when in brought on board Charles Polk as managing director. Up until then the Richmond office had primarily been focused on project development services working with such clients as Virginia Commonwealth University Health System and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. With the addition of Polk, JLL began to move into agency leasing, tenant representation, industrial leasing and capital markets. Industrial clients, in particular, are a target, according to David McGarry, Mid-Atlantic Market Director. "The deep water ports, excellent infrastructure and access to rail make the Richmond and Hampton Roads regions ideal locations for industrial users. From these areas, you can reach one-third of the population within 12 hours and the largest users can find choices for sites," he says in a prepared statement.
The JLL hires in Richmond follow news in the District that several brokers from the local GVA Advantis team, headed by Tim Hague, landed with Toronto-headquartered FirstService REA. Earlier this summer, GVA Advantis' Brian Ball moved to NAI-KLNB to head a new advisory group, bringing with him Jack Regler, Brian Adams and Brian Ball, Jr.
