According to the article, Department of Management Services secretary Linda South will soon be working with a private outside vendor to track down these missing buildings. South was said to have told the Senate Ways and Means committee that she knows of about 115 facilities managed and maintained by her agencies. But she was unable to provide information on the remaining buildings.
Department of Management Services was mandated by law in early 2009 to inventory the facilities in hopes that the cash-strapped Florida could sell some to generate revenue, or find empty office space in which state workers could be squeezed to save funds. But South's agency, which manages and operates only, whose agency handles only a portion of the state's portfolio, acknowledged she was unable to find or value all the buildings and wanted to hire an outside real estate firm to help track them down and provide appropriate valuation.
