That is not to say Northern Virginia has escaped the ill effects of the recession. Much of the discussion during the half-day conference--both in session and out--can be expected to focus on survival strategies for leasing, finance and investment sales.

The conference is kicking off with a presentation from the General Services Administration, a key tenant in the area. It will be followed by a Town Hall presentation "Onward and Upward in 2010" moderated by Susan Carras, senior managing director of Cushman & Wakefield Sonnenblick Goldman. Speaking on the panel will be Doug Fleit, CEO of America's Capital Partners, Mark Levy,Vice President & Regional Market Officer of ProLogis and Joe Stettinius, CEO of Cassidy & Pinkard Colliers.

Janis Schiff, partner at Holland & Knight, will be moderating the retail panel, which will host participants John Asadoorian of Asadoorian Retail Solutions, Grant Ehat, principal of JBG Rosenfeld, Jonathan Hipp, president/CEO of Calkain Cos., and Scott Spector, managing member of Kodiak Properties.

Nelson Migdal, shareholder at Greenberg Traurig and Brian McVay, EVP of Cushman & Wakefield, will participate on the concurrent leasing opportunities panel.
