The Sheraton brand was acquired by Starwood Hotels & Resorts in 1998 when it acquired ITT Sheraton. Under a similar umbrella, Sheraton shares market with sister brand Westin and occasionally the W brand hotels. The Sheraton, which boasts a castle-like facade, recently ran into some controversy and a call for better security after an alleged shooting and, separately, a stabbing occurred around the hotel shortly after New Year's Eve. There is no indication, however that the closing of the Sheraton was based on any of this.
